The 2018 Met Gala Awards will be all about the ladies.
Anna Wintour, Motha to the fashion gawds, has announced her co-hosts and theme for next year’s prestigious event: Amal Clooney, Rihanna. and Donatella Versace.
The Met Gala will be held on May 7 at the Museum of Metropolitan Art in New York City. The theme? “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
Although this grouping may seem random, the ladies have all had their places in Met Gala history pretty solidified.
Donatella Versace has attended the ceremony a total of 16 times and has the most under her belt. Rih has seven appearances and 2 performances. And although Amal has just one in 2015 – she killed it in a red custom Maison Margiela Artisanal gown by John Galliano.
Most noteworthy, Rihanna was virtually the only person in theme at this year’s event. She stunned the crowd in a Comme Des Garçons gown for a “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons” theme.
“Serious and ambitions” is how sources close to the event are referencing the theme. Fashion designers across the decades have never been afraid to reference religion in their collections. Designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, and Riccardo Tisci have all dabbled into it, while Dolce & Gabbana has appropriated The Madonna in past collections.
