The NFL has finally announced their SuperBowl LII Halftime performer and it is none other than our favorite boyband member, Justin Timberlake.
This year’s show down is taking place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota on Sunday, Feb 4, 2018.
Rumors have been swirling around for weeks on who was going to take the stage this year. Although never officially confirmed, a likely candidate for the bill was Jay-Z. This idea was shot down fairly quickly though after Hov gave Colin Kaepernick a shout out during his set at the 2017 Meadows Music & Art Festival this past summer.
The NFL has been in the headlines all season over players kneeling for the national anthem and the declining ratings and attendance it has been experiencing. So this decision to bring an artist like Justin Timberlake makes a lot of sense. He’s still got that “wholesome” image and, lets face it, who dislikes JT? (no one).
The decision has brought some controversy though. As I’m sure everyone remembers 2004’s wardrobe malfunction (now being named “Nipplegate”) with Pop Diva, Janet Jackson. The NFL seemed to have cast a lot of the blame on Janet and JT received a lot of criticism by not “sticking up” for her in the way many people thought he should have. So it seems that the NFL has forgiven and forgotten, which we’re all thankful for.
We’re excited to see what JT has in store for us in February (keeping our fingers crossed for a Janet/JT throwback performance) and we’re also excited to see if there’s maybe a new album in the works????
