CARDI B HAS GLOW’D UP.
Our favorite girl from the Bronx, Cardi B.
Cardi B is now the highest charting female rapper in 3 years. Breaking into the Billboard Top 100 chart at #8, Bodak Yellow has made Cardi into a bonafide superstar. The last unaccompanied female rapper to do so was Nicki Minaj with Anaconda in 2014.
The internet first became acquainted with Cardi B in 2013 with her viral Instagram videos.
She was then tapped to be a regular on the VH1 hit reality show, Love & Hip-Hop: New York
In December of 2016, Cardi stated that she would no longer be a part of the reality TV show, as she was looking to focus and really pursue her rap career. Since this announcement, Cardi has dropped two mixtapes, Gangsta B***h Music, Vol. 1 (2016) and Gangsta B***h Music, Vol. 2 (2017).
In an interview with The FADER, Cardi announced her record deal with Atlantic and discussed why she decided on signing with a label all together, “I felt like it’s certain things that are harder when you’re an independent artist, like get on the radio, go to certain shows, be considered serious…” but when asked why she decided on Atlantic, Cardi made it clear: IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SCHMONEY.
“They gave the right number, so I chose them. It was significantly more than other [deals]. I heard a lot of good things and they was really eager to work with me so I was just like, if they want to give this money then it’s because they’re really gonna work hard for me.”
From New York City Stripper, to Instagram celeb, to Reality TV Star, and now Chart Topping Rapper, it looks like the sky is the limit for our girl, Cardi.
