Album Review | Lil Uzi Vert: Luv Is Rage 2

Quick hit: To put it simply, Lil Uzi Vert’s unique style is f*cking lit. Luv Is Rage 2 has Uzi continuing on his path to show a level of uniqueness that nobody in the hip-hop game has right now. Using a “weird” blend of rapping and singing, with a hip-hop/pop type of vibe, Uzi absolutely kills it in Luv Is Rage 2. Sure, there will be music fans that will say “this isn’t hip-hop”, but that’s not the point. Uzi isn’t even TRYING to be “hip-hop”. He just wants to be himself, and that’s what makes him such a dope artist. Hasn’t hip-hop always been about pushing boundaries?

Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert – Luv Is Rage 2: The Review

It’s here! It’s finally here. From jumping off rooftops and stapling his head, to finally being able to drop Luv Is Rage 2, we’re finally here. And straight up *travis voice*, it’s f*cking lit.

He does each vibe well.

One thing that you have to remember when listening to Uzi, is that he’s not the typical rapper. He actually used to be, though, if you’ve listened to his really old stuff. But, once he chose to instead be himself and really let his creativity fly, that’s when his career took off. So when assessing him, keep that in mind.

Moving on..

Lil Uzi Vert continues on with his unique style, staying true to himself but still showing a bit of growth as an artist. Sure, it’s not the type of growth that Kanye West shows when he goes from album to album since he never allows any of his projects to sound the same. But, it’s the type of growth that shows that he’s improving at doing Lil Uzi. Do you get me?

Showing his versatility throughout the album, Uzi jumps from hyped, to chill, to romantic, to hyped again, and then all over again. But, it’s not the type of versatility that would liken to a “jack of all trades, but master of none” type of artist. He actually executes each vibe well.

Now, not to say that this project is perfect, but he’s definitely shown improvement and the ability to build on his originality. I can only imagine how much of a hit this album is going to be at one of his live shows, with the energy of the crowd turnin’ up together… shit, that gave me the chills.

The Highlights

After listening through Luv Is Rage 2, I think the trajectory for Uzi is only going to keep going up. By continuing to stay true to himself and refusing to listen to those that say that his style is “wrong”, Uzi will be just fine. Let’s just hope he stops doing shit like stapling his head. Smh.

By the way, The Culture really needs to create a sub-genre for hip-hop/rap. Because we’re at the point in hip-hop where we have sounds that are nothing like the standard sound. I vote for creating an “alternative hip-hop” category, similar to how rock & roll has alternative rock. Anyone with me?
